Onilza Abreu Gerth
During the day, Onilza Abreu Gerth is preoccupied with judgments and decisions that impact the civic life of her city. One evening each week the scene changes. The home of her mother turns into a church. As the sun sets in the distance on a Friday evening and you make your way along the cobblestone streets of Manaus in the Amazon, you can only anticipate what to encounter. As you enter the gated home of the Gerth family, the courtyard reveals a gathering of some 100 people. They come together, their faces lined with the effects of their daily toil, yet full of awareness that they have entered into a sacred space. Not trained to be a preacher, Judge Gerth shares her faith, instructs in the precepts of Christianity, and distributes kernels of hope. A home, a church, and a change, in Jesus.
