Faith Williams and Bonita Churms

Faith Williams and Bonita Churms

When Faith Williams and Bonita Churms first met in Kaliningrad, Russia, the only thing they knew about each other was that they would share this apartment and many experiences for the next year. Faith said "we were doubly blessed that loving each other wasn't a chore; even in a normal situation, I believe we'd have been great friends." When they parted for Christmas break and Bonita returned home to South Africa to continue schooling, Faith did not realize their friendship would be cut short. When she returned to Russia, she remembers studying Ecclesiastes in Bible class, where Solomon writes "whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily! This is your last and only chance at it, for there's neither work to do nor thoughts to think in the company of the dead, where you're most certainly headed." (from Chapter 9, The Message ) It was shortly after that when Faith heard of Bonita's death in a car accident. "Solomon wrote that even great men are forgotten after they die," said Faith, "but he can't have known this girl... I saw Jesus smiling at me in her smiles... it's impossible to forget someone like that."
